HDTV DVR Firewire: Non compliant MPEG2 files?

Ok, manages to get a working box. Ran the drivers, got a device and CapDVHS appears to capture just fine.

Out of nowhere, a few timed recording end up not being very compliant. Its causing VideoRedo. as well as other mpeg2 apps (Pegasys Encoder, HDTV2Mpeg2, etc) to hang, thus crashing any attempt to edit out commercials.

Any quick fix for this? Or must I re-capture off the DVR and try again?

try running the HDTV files through MPEG2Repair, then try editing. Fixes transport stream (*.ts/*.tp) errors.

Have you tried VideoReDo QuickStreamFix? Don't open the file just start VRD and use QSF on the file and then see if ti opens OK.

Hopefully you are working with a copy of the source file too.

I had this happen to me at least once with CapDVHS. VideoReDo's QuickStreamFix will take care of this problem just like TBoneit says.
My experience with freeware solutions such as MPEG2Repair has not been very good, so I'd advise the QuickStreamFix approach since you already have VideoReDo.

Yeah this problem keeps occuring.

So I have some football games recorded on it, I use Cap-DVHS to time record it, setting the timer for about 3 hours before I leave for work or go to sleep. When I get back, it appears random, some mpeg2 files are editable, some arnt.

I have a feeling that it must be the software. Is there a better program for Firewire capture? I've taken a look at a few, most capture to avi and I need mpeg2.

EDIT: Using VideoRedo's stream fix and the mpeg2repair program do not resolve this problem. So I end up having to re-capture the game a few times before I get one that I can edit.

I only once had a file that I had to use the stream fix on that CapDVHS recorded and I use CapDVHS all the time. Maybe your cable company is crap. I get a consistently good feed from mine (Comcast) which is why I almost never have problems.
