I am planning to get AverTV Purity 3D MCE 500 TV tuner. I am interested to know whether it is compulsory to use Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 to use this card. Or, can I use other Media Center Softwares such as Beyond TV 3 / Sage TV V 5 etc ?

Check the BeyondTV and SageTV sites for listing under hardware encoding suport. I know nothing about either card but what you need is a card that is supported for hardware encoding. If the card is only supported for software rendering, your PC is usless for any other task during PVR use.Originally Posted by vsenapati

Best PQ as possible via external tuner? Bypassing internal tuner/processor.
