i just noticed this and as i go back through some of my other dvds i find it more and more. i have a big mpg and i cut it up into chapters and burn it. then, sometimes some chapters (not all) will be off synch. this is kind of odd since all i'm doing is marking where the chapter cuts should be. why does this happen? how can i fix it to make sure the next time i burn it its fine? when i rrewatch the off-synch chapter in tmpenc it is in synch, so it must get messed up during conversion to the dvd folder. help!

i just pulled up the dvd folders in dvd shrink and the chapters that were off synch on the dvd were off synch on the folders too, so it IS the conversion to the dvd folders

What software was used to encode to mpg?
I've never had out of sync audio/video using TMPGEnc DVD Author.~Luke~ -
He means where did you get the file/video that you are loading into TMPGEnc DVD Author ?
Did you encode an mpg from an avi ? did you rip it straight from a dvd ?
what did you encode the video with BEFORE loading it in TDA ?
TMPGEnc DVD Author & TMPGEnc are two completely diff. programs that do completey diff. things!!
If the videos are going out of sync after running through TDA (TMPGEnc DVD Author) even if they are in sync before odd's are something is wrong with the video files as TDA does not re-encode anything except audio if you tell it to do so or if the audio is not dvd spec to begin with.
Giving some details might make a diff.
There are about 100 variables and no one can guess what you did.
I also have been using TDA since the first version & it first came out and i also have never had a problem with it putting video & audio out of sync. -
Hmm,I haven't encountered that problem so far.I use TMPGEnc DVD Author v2 and usually use the built in AC3 audio encoder or if I have a short video LPCM.
I'm sure that there is a problem with the mpg because I use both TMPGEnc Plus and Mainconcept MPEG encoder to encode video to MPEG and it's always been in sync when authored with TMPGEnc DVD Author to DVD Video files and played back on the PC or DVD Player.
Running the mpg through VideoReDo can sometimes fix problems with regard to sync and others.~Luke~ -
ok, i have very old vhs tapes that i wanted to preserve on dvd. so i used giga pocket to rip it from my tv to mpg
-
I've no experience with giga pocket,I use VirtualDub with the Huffyuv codec (Or PICVideo MJPEG for little HDD space) and use the audio resampling option in VD to keep sync.I then encode to MPEG using the encoders I already mentioned in my above post.
VHS to DVD can be a tricky job due to dropped frames/loss of sync.
The problem you are experiencing is down to the MPG file captured from your video tape.It may be corrupted and you should run it through VideoReDo and fix any sync,GOP problems ect....You could also try capturing your VHS video using the method I already mentioned above because I know it has always worked for me and others.
TMPGEnc DVD Author is definetly not to blame for the sync issue you mention but rather the source file you loaded into TDA has errors.
Even better,I'd say its easiest to use a DVD Recorder to capture from videotapes!~Luke~ -
TDA 1.6 had big audio sync issues for me
I recently encoded a vid in TDA2 and it also had audio sync problems, although it seemed to drift back and forth and gradually self-correct..
needless to say I'm not real impressed with the offerings, looking for better authoring software. the best part about TDA is the GUI is really simple! -

I've never had TDA (1.6) create any issues at all (sync or otherwise) - perfect authoring every time.

I capture in mpeg2 and then use DVD author to cut ads, add chapters and burn.
-
Even cutting is something not really for an authoring app, even if I admit it's convenient to have that possibility in TDA, and use it quite a lot for cutting out commercials and trimming start/end (from my Hauppage TV captures). But I've never had any sync probs at all. Before using TDA, I used to perform this task with Womble mpeg VCR, before authoring.

and email was never designed to carry attachments, but everybody does it because it makes life easier.
'nuff said. -
TDA is good for easily cutting commercials before authoring and many people use it to make life easier but I'd use a tool specifically designed for that purpose and splash out on VideoReDo as it can "Quickstream fix" bad source material aswell, which is the problem in this case, there's no doubt about it.
The software for capturing to MPEG2 is to blame. The video captured is corrupted.I know this because as I and other experienced members have already mentioned,TMPGEnc DVD Author has never caused out of sync problems for them.~Luke~
