Be kind, I am a Stranger is a Strange land - I am a Windows User!
    Now, back to business!

I have this Enhanced CD that looked like it was made with Quick Time - hense my posting a windows question here. If I am in error sorry

While the audio part will play in a regular CD player, non of the the CDA's will play on on two Win98 computers I have tried.

Furthermore, since as an Enhanced CD, it should play its multimedia files.

But, it won't play. Either using autostart (I have windows set up for auto play), or if I click on the EXE file directly.

On one computer a message telling me that I don't have a 256 video driver. And in another that I don't have Quick Time on it.

Well, on the former, I tried to change to 256 color, but, that froze the computer. And On the other I do have Quick Time Player (Version 6.5.2).

Yet, the 2 MOV files on the disk will play if I open them manually.

    What gives?

Is there somthing wrong with my Quick Time? Can it be that the Quick Time version used to make this Enhanced CD (Dated December 1997). can't be used on newer Quick Time players Or dispite what states, it can't be played on a Windows computer?

Too new, perhaps. I have no idea which version of QT was around then. Or maybe it's limited otherwise, hardcoded in the .exe file.

It goes to show that multimedia arts do not have the lasting power that music, sculpture, paintings and stories have.

I think I know what's going on here...

You can help us help you by posting a listing of the Enhanced portions files/folders (ISOBuster screenshot?)...

If this is a c.1997 Enhanced CD, it will likely be true BlueBook compliant--not just Multisession (as most Enhanced CD's made more recently).
BlueBook compliancy includes CDXA Mode2Mixed track structure and certain required folders--much like WhiteBook(VCD). It also would ALWAYS include an Autorun, and should include a setup for Macs and PC's to use the Apple Enhanced CD player application (but which usually isn't included on the disc).
This application REQUIRES Quicktime, and probably only supports 256color video. The version of QT needed for the Mac is probably variable, but the version for the PC REQUIRES v2.1.x-2.5.x.
This was the last version of QT for the PC that worked within the PC MCI spec (part of what it uses for this application), all versions 3 and after are built differently, and would not work with this application.
The good thing is that you can install QTv2 on a Win9x computer, even if QT?6 is already installed and they can coexist. Bad thing is that it may mess up your QT preferences. If you really want to do this you could 1.Uninstall QT6, 2.Install QTv2, 3.Reinstall QT6. This would make it the preferred MOV provider and leave the associations the way you'd expect them to be.
QTv2 is quite hard to find, but might still be possible. I believe I have it archived on a disc somewhere, but it may take some searching to find it...

    HTH,
    Scott

    Belive it or not

You (and me) are all correct

The problem did lay with the difference in Quick Time Versions.

Since this so called "Enhanced" CD had QuickTime for Windows 2.12 on it - I installed it

    It worked!

(after I was informed to dial down the graphics to 640x480 256 color)

And while I got the multimedia to work - The music STILL would not play

But, using ISO Buster I found the CDA tracks, copy/convert them to WAV, then burn them as an Audio CD on to a CD-R using NERO

Then. since the multimedia stinked, I removed QT 2.12.

And all the time QT 6 was not effected at all

Thanks for pointing me in the righ way.

However, I can help thinking I went to too much trouble to get 4 15 minutes tracks of the sound of water set to kennyG type music.

I hope my friend (who I am doing this for) really knows how to thank me
