  1. Hi

I have alot of avi files and I want to burn them to a dvd disk.

I have the burning software sonic on my computer and when I go into create dvd and select the avi file I want, it can only fit one file on one disk. the file size is about 350mb for each file and the length is about 40 mins each.

Is there any way I can get more than 1 file maybe 4 or more on one disk??

    Any help would be great.

Convert with something else like convertxtodvd or https://www.videohelp.com/tools?s=35#35 , add the avis and encode.

Or convert with a separate encoder where you can set the output file size or video bitrate, https://www.videohelp.com/tools?s=40#40

You need to convert then author. Convert with TMPGEnc and author with TDA. Work out the bitrate with this tool www.videohelp.com/calc

  4. If you tell Sonic to "create DVD", it is actually going to re-encode the files to MPEG2 format. I assume you just want to save the original files on a disc. If so, you need to create a data disc. I use ImgBurn or Nero. Just drag the AVI files and burn. Of course, AVI files on a DVD disc will not play on a DVD player. You will need to play it on your computer.

..unless, of course, you have a DivX/XviD capable player - many recent are, and are a much easier way to play back AVI on your TV than going thru the rather lengthy and not always straight forward procedure of encoding and authoring them to Video DVD.

I love it when a plan comes together!

  7. I dont have a dvd that plays AVi files so it isnt a data disk im looking for.

I tried the method above by converting them to dvd (vob) and then burning them to dvd disk with TMPGEnc DVD Author, I added the files and burned the dvd but it only played back 1 of the files, even though 3 were burned on the disk? also I wanted to be able to add menus and be able to select them on screen, with the dvd author it just plays as soon as the dvd is in.

Is ther eany other (free) software out there that I can add the vob files to but be able to add menus etc aswell??

    Thanks

SVCD2DVD is an excellent program that will convert AVIs to DVD and, if you wish, burn
the result in one step. You can also create a menu with it. I've used it for years and could not
be more pleased. There is also a forum on this site dedicated to SVCD2DVD.
Cost of the program is about $20US. Check it out at www.svcd2dvd.com

TDA will do exactly what you want. You need to set it up so that first action is menu and not to play the file. Simply go into TDA and have a little play around. You are able to add text, change menu layout, backgrounds, motion menu's etc etc. It really is a very straightforward program and ideal for someone just learning the basics of dvd authoring. It is alot easier than the more advanced DLP.
