I tried to play a movie on my Notebook with Windows Media Player. I get message that WMP may support the file type or Codec used to compress the file. It is an avi file that I downloaded and I believe it has Divix compression. The problem is that WMP dose not give message which codec needed to run file. There may be tool out there that help determine which codec I need. Let me know.

Also, is there a tool other then CSS region free from DVDIDLE to remove region code from video file.

    Thanks for your help

And if GSPOT fails, try one of the others, like MEDIAINFO.

You could try installing the K-Lite Codec Pack, which will probably come with a codec for the format. If you are really desparate to play the video and you can't find a codec, try playing it in MPlayer (the MPUI distro) for Windows, which uses its own codecs built-in.

NO! Do not use a codec pack. That almost always messes up a computer system. You may as well voluntarily give it a virus or drag a magnet across the hard drives.
