  1. Well I captured a home video but at times the video is bright and times dark, what program out there that can let me select a section, say the bright, and make it a lil darker and vice versa ? Also need to fix focus/blur and stuff. I tried ulead but that didn't work very well.

This happened to me a while back, My VCR has auto colour / contrast adjust and when i copied my home videos it switched dark / bright intermitantly. eventually i cut it into its respective segments and worked on them individually in Vdub.. I dont know if there is software out there with an automated process for this

Something like Vegas can be used to fix the brightness issue (within reason) either through cutting up the source, or through key framing the changes.

Nothing is going to do you much good for focus issues. If it is out of focus, you won't get it back. If it is a little soft, a sharpening filter might get you back a little percieved detail.

That sounds like false Macrovision detection if it's not related to the scenes or clips. But the other posters have some good ideas to correct the brightness changes. How are you capturing the video? What card and program?

All the rest, I try to capture in AVI formats. Then I can use the many filters available for VirtualDub or it's variants. I use VD Mod most of the time. VD also has a conditional filter where you can separate out the parts you want to filter and do only those. A little experimental at present, though. http://wwwtcs.inf.tu-dresden.de/~dc1/conditional/

Premiere, Vegas, VirtualDub ... whatever you choose will take a lot of time, and then you have to re-encode when you're finished too. Expect no miracles, nor miraculous "automatic" fixes, this is not CSI, this is reality.

    Good luck.
