I searched the forum for reviews of this DVD Recorder but only found a brief discussion of how it differs from DR4. Anyone have this recorder and any thoughts about it? I just bought a Lite-On from Newegg and it will not recognize any of the three types of recommended media I have tried so I'm ready to send it back and try a different recorder. Best Buy and New Egg have sales on the D-RW2). Thanks.

I have the D-RW2... does what it supossed to do. Nothing fancy... no hard drive. I use it mainly to archive suff off my DVR ... football games (GO BUCKEYES!) and races (none of the Nascar crap... ALMS).

When I purchased the unit I was not sure If I had any '-' media at home... mostly I have hundreds of Fuji film '+' that my burner burns the booktype to ROM 8), So I picked up some Sony DVD-r '-' at Best Buy.. sorry I forgot what the ID code was, but they worked perfectly. Last month I invested in some Sony DVD-rw '-' and they also have worked great.

    Hope this helps,
    JSB

Thanks for the report, JSB. I ended up buying this since it was cheap at Best Buy and really I only need the machine to do the same kinds of things you discuss (only I'm recording soccer matches from the DirecTV DVR). I will keep using my Cyberhome DVD player for multi-region/PAL DVD viewing. So far I can report that D-RW2 is reliable (I've been using TDK 16X DVD-R), the picture looks good when transferring from DVR and old VHS tapes (although the latter required another VHS machine to re-feed the images to the DVD recorder--see my other post in this forum about interlacing problems), and the machine is easy to use.

    Side note:
Does your on/off button have a green light around it... hard to explain.
My looks like it should be lit... like my other Toshiba player does

It has a green ring around it but it doesn't look like a light. I hadn't noticed it until you asked so it has never lit up but also never caught my eye in any way. I can also say that I spent about 6 hours straight recording soccer matches earlier this week (3 DVD-R at 2 hours each) and didn't hvae any problems. Hopefully that will be a good sign for future use of this machine. Take care.
