Hello,
I just got back to ripping dvd's after about 5-6 years and I got a headache already![]()
But first let me introduce myself:
I'm BazarusI was born in Poland (that is very poor eastern europe country between Germany and Russia) but I live in US. I'm a computer technician and a graphic designer. I can fix pretty much anything and that include laptops and desktops 8) I also do whole bunch of graphics in Photoshop and Illustrator. I have my own small buisness on ebay No Advertising - Craig Tucker Actually I've been thinking about hiring a "girlfriend"?
She could live with me, cook for me and help me with handling and shipping. She would have to be fit and pretty. I do not like OB's.
Okay, enough of this BS, lets talk about movies.
Last time I ripped dvd I used:
1- smart ripper - to extract vob's
2- dvd2avi - to extract ac3
3- tmpgenc - to encode
4- virtual dub - to split
and a regular cd-r to created data cd or simply hdd for storage.
I was going to back up all my dvd's and sent original's to my mom, but after a few movies I quit. The reason was obvious--> 15-20 hours to get done with one dvd![]()
This is breach of copyright and as such is not allowed on this site - Craig Tucker
Now we have dvd writers, so I think I can do this much faster.
I want to store some movies on my hard drives and some of them I want to copy to dvd's. Those that I want to store are movies that are recorded only in stereo. Those that are recorded in 5.1 dolby digital I want to copy.
So I got started and I visited old good VCDHELP.COM![]()
And just like I thought I hit the wall of info![]()
I didn't want to buy any software just yet so I started with freewares.
I picked claddvd.net which I think is pretty good for extracting vob's. Now am trying to figure it out how to best use it. Any suggestions here?
For encoding I choose auto gordian knot which only takes 4-5 hours(my goodness) Anything faster than that???? Also I would like to know which is the best option.
I tried a couple of them:
1- for storing movies on my hdd's I encoded with predefined size for 1cd, but that is n ot a hot quality,
2- now am trying with predefined size for 1/6 dvdr (about 760mb)
For copying dvd's I tried clone dvd (which is on trial for 21 days) Is there a free copying software out here?I bought some discs DVD+R DL and I went to work. I saw that those can fit 8.5gb of data, but... when I finished recording I found out that the disk is full and there is only 2.5gb of data on it...WTF???
I guess I missed some options in clone dvd? I don't know, whats the way to do it?
Movie plays fine on my laptop but it doesn't play on my $500,00.00 dvd player(JVC XV-D701 5.1 DD & DTS)it should, shouldn't it?
Those are my problems for now and if anyone have some suggestion a help would be appreciate.

Well for dvd to DVD+RDL I have used this process with no problems.
1. Rip with dvdfab decrypter (or your favorite up-to-date app)
2. Edit with dvd shrink (that is if you want to take out some extras such as warnings, previews, credits, etc.)
3. Burn with copytodvd.
Done this 20+ times with +DL media (Verbatim) and 100's of times with +r media (verbatim & TY) without a single problem.
Now for storing on a laptop (I haven't done this yet, but plan too) and have been told to use autoGK as well. What We Do In Life, Echoes In Eternity....

Hi Bazarus
I have my own small buisness.
Hope you are giving a donation for advertising your business here.
I was going to back up all my dvd's and sent original's to my mom
As far as DVD ripping is concerned the tools have progressed so much in the last few years that you may well want to read many related threads and check the tools section before wasting time on the older methods which often do not work with newer disc. Even DVD to avi which often took 20 hours or more can also be done in near realtime depending on your gear and the codec settings you choose

I originally quoted the posters site in case he modified his post before it was checked by a forum moderator. Now that it has been reviewed, I am removing the link to keep the thread compliant with the mod's decision

No +DL media is good for movies. They allow the newer movies to be identical to the originals. Sometimes when copying a move to a single layer +r disc the movie would need to be compressed (dvdshrink) to fit onto a dvd. But no with the +DL media there is no need to compress(which lowers the quality of the video) the movie to fit it on a disc. I jsut use dvd shrink to get rid of the special features and menus, then I burn to a +dl disc.
No why didn't the movie you just copied work on the dvd player, but did on the Laptop? We'll need some info from you.
1. How did you copy the dvd?
2. What brand of +DL are you using?
4. What dvd writer to burn with?
3. How old is your dvd player? (some older players have trouble reading the +dl mediaWhat We Do In Life, Echoes In Eternity....

I would suggest try playing the non-working dvd in another dvd player (friends, parents, store) and see if it works then. I would also recommend trying the free version of CopyToDvd
Also, what dvd burner are you using? (BenQ, NEC, Lite-On, HP, etc)What We Do In Life, Echoes In Eternity....

On the first day I joined I got warning from some on board cop or whatever which is still there only God knows what for. I was marked with a yellow box so I must be aware now not to get additional 4 boxes and get banned (LOL). Am so scared now...I gotta be carefull of what am saying, especially about me and what I do. And BTW...nice and easy I introduced myself to the forum and NOBODY SAID WELCOME!
700+ people vieved this post...this is ridiculous...only 1 person reply with any help for which I appreciate. Rest of the people that responded pulling out some shit about me and stuff and they don't even know me. What kind of bullshit forum this is?

When you sign up to this forum you agree to the forum rules, break them and you get a warning, seems fair enough to me
What you are trying to achieve is so basic, have you actually read any of the many guides on this website?

Bazarus,
In joining any group, be it an online forum, a social group or a business, there are codes of behaviour.
At VH these are easy to find because they are spelt out for you in our rules. Every member is asked to read those rules. You did not. You then broke one of those rules. Now you are showing a lack of manners by insulting others and passing the blame for something you did all by yourself.
You even have the gall to complain that our manners are lacking by us not welcoming you? We have dozens of new members and tens of thousands of visitors each day; but somehow you deserve special red carpet treatment?
The day you will be "welcomed" is the day you become a VH regular, volunteering your time and friendly advice to assist others; or at least donating towards the costs of running this site.
Your choice.

I'm not showing a lack of maners...as you can see from my first post I was nice.
You want to tell me that those are comments in the code of manners?:
"Does this sound just a little fishy."
"It is easy to figure out what the poster want to find out and do."
"Let me guess, he can fix computers, he can do graphic etc. etc. He had originally put his business name there - removed by mod. I guess he could help customers "create" and "back up" any "home made" DVD movies. "
If those people are what you called REGULAR MEBERS I don't think I want to be one of them!
