  1. I just added a Datavideo TBC-1000 between my VHS out and Canopus ADVC 110.

I connected the SVideo and stereo outs from my VHS to the TBC to the Canopus SVideo and Audio.

The picture in iMovie on my Mac has horizontal lines (almost like it adds some interlace lines).

If I remove the TBC from the chain, it looks pretty normal.

I thought the TBC would provide a better picture, but it is actually alot worse.

    Any ideas?

  2. Also, I noticed its worse when there is more motion and there seems to be an occasional stutter.

It's like the TBC can't process fast enough. Thoughts?

I have a TBC-1000 and have not had this type of problem. Can you post a screenshot of the lines ?

If all your tapes look bad while using the TBC, then your TBC is (likely) bad. Get a new TBC.

If only a few tapes look bad while using the TBC, then temporarily bypass the TBC. Some tapes simply transfer better without using a TBC.

As a test, try using the composite video output of your VHS machine. Also, try swapping video cables. If any of these meassures solve your problem, you might not need a new TBC afterall.

    Good Luck!

  5. Yes, I tried composite and different cables. I even tried with a different VCR. The horizontal lines in the picture look pretty bad no matter what I do. Almost like interference, but I moved the equipment around also and it made no difference.

Since my tapes are in pretty good condition, and although some shots have some wavy vertical lines, I'm wondering if a TBC-1000 is really going to help much anyway.

The attached pic is without the TBC, but I guess my question is, would the TBC-1000 clear up the wavy light poles in the pic anyway?

Probably not, although the line based TBCs on some VCRs might. I'd be more interested in seeing these so-called "horizontal lines that are like interlacing baut are not interlacing" though.

My VCR, Panasonic DMR-ES35V combo VCR/DVD supposedly has some TBC already but I can't control any settings.

There were some examples in the Restoration forum of similar problems being removed by a linebased TBC in a VCR - if I remember rightly it was a Toshiba or JVC. You can search there for more details.

I wonder if the TBC power supply is damaged. The AC adapter.
