    Hello friends!!

Can some please tell me or give me tutorial about 2 pass encoding of a avi file to avi file with DivX 6.3 codec and using VirtualDub.

I already know 2 pass encoding with Xvid using VirtualDub.

Your help will be greatly appriciated.

simply open your file in VD,
    click
    file - save as
Down the bottom you will see compression, select divx and configure..
    Firstly select this option

This will save a avi file but more importantly will write a xml stat file in c:\programes\divx\divx

Now do the exact samething but select multipass Nth..

this will reference the xml stat file and create a two pass avi

    mmm??
    well basically, In VirtualDub
    open your video file
Click -file, save_as and at the bottom where it says compression click change.

This will bring up a list of codecs, select divx and click configure.

at the bottom of this screen under "rate control mode:"
select Multipass, 1st pass. then click OK and OK on the next screen which will take you back to the save as section.

Name your file 1stpass (you can name it anything tho) and click save.

this will save an avi file and an xml stat file. Once it has finished go back to SAVE AS in VirtualDub

click change next to compression at the bottom of the page again and select divx again. click configure and this time at the bottom (rate control mode:
    select MULTIPASS NTH PASS
    click OK, OK and Save
this will now reference the XML STAT file from the first pass we did earlier and save a two pass quality divx

I'm not sure why you cannot see my screen shots? can anyone else NOT see them?

    Another simple way is to:

    open file in VD
    click Video
    Compression
    select Divx
    click configure
    setup bitrate etc, etc,
select Multipass, 1st pass - click OK

In VD click File - Save As
put a check mark in the box - Don't run this job now, add it to Job Control so I can run it in batch mode
Put in a file name, select location, then click on Save.

Go back once again to Video - Compression - Divx - configure - and select Multipass; Nth Pass
File - Save as - (use the same file name and location again) and checkmark the Job Control box again then click on "Save" again.

    Now:
    FIle - Job Control
You will find your two entries (pending jobs) waiting to be batch run.
    Click - Start

Easy once you do it a time or two.
