I'm not a newbie, yet I am indeed confused in front of "DVDCutter Pro 5.0" and "DVD Clone 3.0"! Please tell me which one is more suitable or just give me some suggesion. The problem is I want to find a video related software suite which can not edit dvd, copy dvd, backup DVD-9 to DVD-5 without quality loss, but also convert DVD to other video formats such as avi, divX, xvid, mpeg...

Yes, this is a big project, because I'm fond of all-in-one software, I wouldn't like to install too many software on my computer. By the way, I've downloaded them from http://www.sharewarejunction.com yet I haven't installed them so far, I just plan to listen to your advices before doing that

    1. You cannot copy DVD9 to DVD5 without quality loss. Period. Any software that says it can if full of s##t.

    2. No all-in-one software is good at any of the things it does. The old saying "Jack of all trades, master of none" hold very true of video related software.

    3. You have to make a decision about the outcomes you want to achieve, and the path you want to take to get there. If you want a nice easy path, then you must be prepared to accept a lower quality of output. In most cases, around 50% or less of what could be achieved. If you want quality, then you need to take the itme to learn the different tools needed at each step. Even using the simpler tools for each stage will get you substantially better results than any one-click-wonder

    4. A quick look at the first couple of pages of "video tools" at Sharewarejunction is enough for me to not want to go back there for anything. Almost everything on these pages is second rate garbage - the type of software that results in people coming here complaining about how hard it is to get good quality video. And they are right - it you use crap software, it is pretty much impossible.

My advice - stop looking for a quick fix and learn how to do it properly. Sure, it takes a little more effort, but the results are worth it. Otherwise, stop using phrases like "without quality loss", because all you are going to get is quality loss.

DVD9 to DVD5 without quality loss? Cannot be done i'm afraid, you can either shrink the DVD9, re-encode or edit and remove things you do not need. I use the following -

    DVD Shrink
    DVDFab Decrypter
    VobBlanker
    ImgBurn

AutoGK is what you need to convert to AVI. As for converting to MPEG, if you simply want to go from VOB to MPEG then use VOB2MPEG or to re-encode MPEG try TMPGEnc or Procoder.

Also read the many, many guides that are available on this website, all the info you need is there

Hi, steveryan! I have TMPGEnc too, it's really a nice thing! Now, I decide to install "DVDCutter Pro 5.0" and AutoGK to try my luck! 2 or 3 days or whatever later, I would tell you two the result and my feeling(experience or lesson
