I'm trying to create a DVD slideshow to run on a stand-alone DVD player so I can view it on TV. So far I've tried 38 slide-show programs and none seem to be able to do what I want (except perhaps Nero Photoshow Deluxe 4, though I can't burn to DVD in the demo so I can't verify it).

What I'd like it to do is to be able to advance the slides without causing the background music to skip ahead, and I don't want specific songs tied to specific photos. I just want the music to play in the background uninterrupted while I peruse the photos. I don't know enough about DVD-Authoring to be sure this is possible, though I swear I've seen this on commercial DVDs in the extras.

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

I'm pretty certain what you want is not possible within the restrictions of a Video DVD specifications.

I don't believe it can be done on a DVD, the specs just don't allow for it. I suspect that what you have seen is clever use of audio, so when it does break it isn't as noticable. Certainly, the most common method for user interactive slideshows - menus - won't allow it. There might be a way to do it with clever VM commands, but I cannot see how.

Nope! Can't be done. Look at it this way> Can you skip a DVD movie and not have the audio track also skip? Your slide show is a video containing both visual and audio info. They are locked together and so one cannot be advanced without also advancing the other.
No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD!
