  1. How do you go about making an mp3/wma track shorter.
    I want to do this so i can then use the track as a ring tone on a
    pocket pc

    1) Make it shorter (=cut it down in time)
    2) Encode it at a lower bitrate.

    check the tools (left hand side menu) and search for audio software - there are a number of utilities that will do this for you.

    I have used mp3DirectCut for years on MP3s and it works great. Actually just used it yesterday for a ringtone for my GF. I have heard that Audacity, is good to if needed for wav. I have never edited a wav file so I have no experience with this tool. Both are free though

    The freeware Audacity audio editor accepts WAV, Ogg, and MP3 audio. It will output MP3 if you if you have the Lame mp3 codec installed. It's easy to use, similar to a word processor; Cut and paste. It also has 'undo' if you mess up.
