now you need two 1000-2000$ machines and two monitors and a bunch of cables to make that piece work .... kinda useless piece in this day and age really ...

i hope you got the memory mod. with it also - or it is useless even more

    oops!

well, it comes with all the bits, wires, plugs (+ manual) but needs a new battery for the memory - 99p the lot, at auction, that's about 50c? i'm sure i'll find something to plug it into or vice versa? i'm constantly experimenting with analogue media cos i like the effects you can get - no interest in exclusively filming digital ~ too clinical for what i want :-\

i see the one you bought http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Panasonic-VW-EC10-VHS-Video-Editor_W0QQitemZ320022621410QQihZ011...QQcmdZViewItem

it is a semi pro AB roll editor -- you will have to read the manual to see what VTR it is compatible with as it does not have the standard multi pin connector

  8. well, i guess it's gonna be suck-it-n-see time? i have the manual for the M10 vhs cam and it illustrates an "Editing Controller" plugging into the back of the cam, which looks very similar to the VW-EC10; plus they're both manufactured by Panasonic, as is one of my vcr's [NV-F55B]. i just love playing with this stuff.

the weakness with the cam is the movable eyepiece which can freak the electronics, but it is not an insurmountable glitch, i have found; the other pitfall is the battery which must never be charged down and always recharged every 6 months, whether used or not ~ this must have been the end for many cam users, they used it once on battery, put it away for a year, then tried to use it again = terminally dead battery / can never be recharged once the charge has completely gone.

mine had been in someone's attic for years, covered in dust, hardly been used, battery as dead as a doornail: for it's age (and obsolescence) it's running like a dream - on new batteries, of course.

another drawback is no comprehensive remote controller; you can turn it off (to stand-by) and on again, with a simple lead switch, but if it is switched to stand-by for over 5 minutes, the system goes into power-save stasis, and you have to re-set it manually

but it works, the darn thing works!

    :-]

    thanks

These days it's easy to digitize, edit in NLE, output back to digital format, then copy to an extra VHS tape.

  10. thanks lordsmurf,

    i make experimental 'shorts'

what i do is film in ciné then dv transfer; the vhs cam is a new experiment - i needed miles and hours of road footage for a 'short' for which vhs 3 hour cassettes came in handy; but my real reason for using vhs is the effects you can get by playing around with vcr's ... it's the equivalent to 'cross-processing' analogue film, i suppose? ciné depth / colour will always be superior to vct. having said that, the M10's lens is a beaut ... of course transferring vhs to HDD is a synch - just plug it in and go: ciné is a little more demanding.

    bests (good forum!)
