I have plugged in an LG GSA-H10A, and Windows seems to recognise it just fine, but when I run DVD Decrypter, it refuses to do anything with the drive. The error message at the bottom of the main window reads "Device Not Ready (Logical Unit not ready, Cause not reportable)", which obviously makes troubleshooting the thing incredibly difficult to say the least. Should I just give up and put the old drive back in? Or is there a way to fix this?

You can try removing the controller (ide?) from the device tree and rebooting, forcing it to recognize all devices over again since the new drive is replacing another drive (it may be confused).

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstall DVD Decrypter? This helps sometimes when there is pre-install software before a new optical drive is added. Reinstalling usually fixes this problem if Windows and the BIOS are both recognizing the drive.

Thanks, I will try those two suggestions right now and report back in a tick.

EDIT: *Sigh* I have uninstalled the IDE controller, then uninstalled DVDDecrypter, and after reinstalling both, I still get this vague and unhelpful message. Its enough to make one cry.

arggh, bad drive....or...is it on it's own ide channel or sharing an ide channel? If it's sharing try it on it's own ide channel as a master. I hate to see a grown elf cry.

PS: My LG GSA-10N is a great drive. (set as secondary slave to NEC 3540)

Are you sure you have the jumper set correctly on the drive?

I will try it on its own IDE channel in a moment. I think the real problem is something I did to Windows in the hours after I reinstalled it on new hardware. And yes, I am very certain the jumper is set right.

I suppose DVD Decrypter may be too old to recognize it properly, try imgburn, its more of an updated DVD Decrypter burn engine.
