Unfortunately I have used Pinnacle Studio 10 to edit a DVD. I have been working on the movie for quite some time and I don't want to start over again with a new tool. The problem is that the DVD menu is buggy. When I navigate the menu (with a DVD player) the "cursor" will sometimes move down two entries when I press the arrow once, and sometimes not move at all.
I understand that it is possible to edit or create a DVD menu with a stand alone tool. So my question is; whitch one should I use and how much of the work will I have to do over again? Will I have to create the menus from scratch?

If the skipping over menu options is the same everytime, then it is probably the authoring tool. If it only happens occassionally, I would start by putting new batteries int he remote for the DVD. Not saying Pinnacle isn't at fault, but if it isn't the same options being skipped every time, then it is less likely to be an authoring issue.

That said, you should be able to import the VOBs into TDA and create new menus there for the video to finish your project. Or you could just output the video and audio from pinnacle in a compliant form (or demux from your current VOBs) and use GUIforDVDAuthor to create new menus and finish it off.

I was able to import the VOB files into TMPGEnc but the "menu" button is greyed out. I have set a few chapters. Any idea what the problem could be?

  4. I do not know if my founding is related to your problem. I found
that if I cascade several AVI files and create a manu for them,
sometime I have difficult to set chapter pointer to where I want.
So I would always merge several AVI files to a single AVI files
first (use "Make Movie -> AVI"). Because each AVI file is also
generate by Pinnacle, this step is fast and without re-encoding.
Then, I will create a manu for this single piece of AVI.

According to the helpfile VOB import does not always work. So I made a mpeg file with Studio and opened that.
I have now set all the chapters and created a much better menu than what's possible with studio. I was ready to write to DVD but there is some "demo version" statement written all over my menus! The webpage didn't say anything about that! TMPGEng DVD Author 2.0 does not have all the possibilities that one could wish for so I'm a little hesitant to shell out the $90.
But if I go ahead and buy it, what software would you recommend for the rest of the job? That means editing content from DV camera or analog camera. Is any of the other TMPGEnc products suitable for that, and can the chapter info be read by DVD Author?
My plan was to take a look at Premiere as soon as I was finished with the terrible mess that Pinnacle Studio has made for me.

Other options to consider would premiere lements or sony vegas movie studio. Both have reasonable DV editing abilities and can produce DVDs as output.
