I'm trying to do 2 things:

    1. Convert 2 images (in the form of a slideshow) to an mpeg2 file (m2v? mpv?). It's basically going to be a transition clip to put between a first play video and the main menu on a DVD (for less abrupt, more smooth transition b/t the two). Is there something like an image to mpg converter?? Couldn't find after search..

    2. Join the first play clip and the new clip created in step #1 to create one new first play clip

    Can someone help? Thanks..

Slide Show Movie Maker .... will convert jpeg etc to .avi
    check it out here http://www.joern-thiemann.de/tools/SSMM/index.htm

.... you could then convert it to mpeg with TMPGenc or similar .... TMPGenc will also join the resultant mpeg to your original first play mpeg

VCDEasy will convert pictures to MPG, but resolution is going to be relatively low, as the name suggests, it is for VCD's and SVCD's.

  5. Create an AviSynth script using the ImageSource command and load that script into an MPEG encoder like HCenc.

  6. Ulead DVD Slide Show does the job very well. I got it free with a 50 disk DVD-R cake box. It permits a huge number of images to be put on the DVD. The application takes the images and converts them into MPEG before creating the VOBs.
DVDLab has got similar facility. In addition it permits mixing of normal DVD-Video with slide shows.
Go to the site of each software for more details.
