    Guys,

What is the minumum PC specs I can get away with to run the Adobe suite of video editing products? I know that in the PC world more is always better but like most people I'm on a budget.

    many thanks,

Adobe has focused their high end products to the business user with state of art (last 2 year) high end computers. To take full advantage of these products, additional hardware is required.

Will the products also run on a typical consumer PC? Pay close attention to minimum requirements and assume that will be OK for learning the interface and doing short tests, but inadequate to do productive work.

If your goal is learning, start with Premiere Elements and master every detail. Then, you may want to drop back a few generations for the full product and start with something like Premiere v6.5 that will run well on say a 2.4 GHz P4. Your first year with Premiere is all about learning the basics. Don't waste your money on the current version or on new hardware until you are up to speed. This can take a couple of years and by then you will need to buy everything new again.

One thing I've learned over the years with Abobe, a new version release is intended for then state of the art new hardware and won't seem to run quickly until run on the next PC upgrade. Premiere 6.5 came out in the era of high end PIII (mostly dual CPU) computers, but didn't really run well until the 2GHz P4 and up. Today's Premiere Pro 2.0 should be run on dual core P4 and better. It won't fly until quad core or better.
