Hi, i've been using shrink for the last 3 years and it's worked smoothly, though now i have this weird problem: when i click on 'open files' the software just vanishes, dissappears... i have reinstalled, and still does not work.

I have'nt updated any software: not Nero for burning, not DVD Decrypter for ripping the file off to the hard disk... The strange thing is that i was able to copy films one day and the very next day i could not. I switched from norton to karpersky antivirus in the meantime, but don't think it has any thing to do at all with the conflict... i had been using the very same combination of software with karpersky previously with success

What version dvdshrink? There are several ones.
Did you try to use System Restore?

    mel867,

When DvdShrink "vanishes" it's obviously crashing, but clicking the "Open Files" button just brings up what looks like the standard windows "File Open/Save" dialog box. That should always work.

When you reinstalled DvdShrink, did you use the DvdShrink Uninstall to remove the prior version first? If not, it's something worth trying.

There might be further clues to why this is happening in the Event Viewer. Check the logs for anything that occurred at the same time you click the "Open Files" button.

By the way, I see this was your first post here. Welcome to Videohelp.

Hello! My computer is a Sony Vaio VGN-A617B (a laptop). I have been using the same combination of dvdDecrypter-shrink-nero for a long time now with this computer and it has worked nicely...

How do you do this System Restore you talk about? Is it about Shrink, about the OS??

System restore with XP: In 'All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore' and then pick a highlighted date that is before your problem and restore. You will lose any installed programs that were installed after this date, but all files should remain. In most cases, you can also restore to the present setup if the restore point doesn't help.
