  1. Hello All,

I got this wmv of PAL standard out of Photostory 3.0 but the resolution is 768x576 and DVD authoring programs refuse to accept it. I would like to make it 720x576 or 704x576. The first thing that came into my mind was Virtualdub and I downloaded Virtualdub 1.3c with ASF and WMV support but it refused to accept this wmv file. so now I am using Windows Media Studio encoder (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/forpros/encoderse/default.aspx) but it is very slow. I minute video asking for 20 mins time to resize..

    Anyone has better idea?

    Thanks

Windows Movie Maker will accept this and output a DV file at 720 x 576, if you can get it to an XP machine (although I assume you have access to this if you are running Photostory)

  3. I will give a try, although I solved my problem in other way. I found a website, www.papajohn.org and this guy has compiled a profile for 720x576 PAL video which way crispier than the original PAL profile of Photostory.
Another issue with my Windows Movie Maker is, my OS is Swedish and I am not at all good at Swedish so it really wreaks my head.

I wonder though, why MS has screwed up so badly with both PAL and NTSC export profiles in Photostory??

The resolution is fine because Photostory outputs square pixels. Any decenet encoder should be able to resize this to 720 x 576 and have things look right. The two biggest mistakes that M$ made with Photostory were

    a) restricting output to wmv only - there should at least be a DV avi option

    b) using the same basic engine as Movie Maker, which does it's effects work and transitions at 640 x 480

Photostory is a brilliant miss - it has great features, is easy to use, is, imo, better than MemoriesonTV if you just want a video slideshow without DVD output, but it's image quality is so soft and fuzzy it negates all this.

And what's worse, M$ have taken all the best bits out of Photostory, and what's left will be built into Vista. Morons.
