  1. I have recorded shows with PVR-150 with the software WinTV 2000 in mpg2 format. When i author my DVDs with TMPGEnc DVD Author and play it on a TV i notice that the field order is wrong and makes the picture look very bad... I reencoded the clip with TMPGEnc Xpress and there forced the clip to be topfield first (TMPG regoconised it as lower field) and then author it again and ofcourse the result was now perfect!

The only problem is that i dont have time to rencode it all (its about 50hours) and i dont want to do another encoding since you lose a lot of quality then. So how do i get TMPGEnc author 1.6 to realize that the files is upper field and NOT bottom field?

If its not possible to fix in that application i would like to get tips about another program that can fix it.

    Hope somebody can help me

    Best regards

Go to the Tools section on the left and do a search on Restream. I've used this tool in the past to change the field order flags in an mpeg without re-encoding when I had the field order wrong.

Thanks for the tip. The problem is that my files contain both audio and video wich make that impossible

TMPGEnc also has a DeMultiplex feature in it's Tools. I've just run across the same problem with the field order being out of wack, and I'm using Vegas 4.0 to encode and Maestro to author, weird, since I've been using both for a few years now with very little problems. :/

For some reason, it appears that Hauppauge cards put something in the stream that gives everything the wrong idea of Field Order. My PVR-350 does the same thing as your PVR-150. Is there a reason why you can't just change the setting to Top Field before encoding? Everytime you record with your card you're going to have this problem, so I just change the field order setting manually before encoding because I know it's always wrong.

Check your file with GSpot or Bitrate Viewer, I think you will find they are "top field first".
Read somewhere that Analog uses "top field first" and DV uses "bottom field first".
It seems many editing and/or authoring programs are geared for video cameras,
thus the "bottom field first". Capture cards using the tuner or a VCR as inputs are
analog so "top field first". This is true of most cards that output MPEG2,
not sure about ones that output AVI. Digital TV cards may be a different story.
