    Hi everibody!

    I'm new here and I'm looking for some help with a DVD (disc) problem.
    The problem is: I've a DVD recorder and I've been recording a TV program, but when I was changing the name to the episodes the DVD has frozen and I couldn't see or change aything. After this I eject the disc and I've cleaned it with alchool and I have saw there was a little scratch, and it was this little scratch that didn't allow me to see the program I've record.

    So my question is: is there any chance to recover the files from the DVD to my computer or anything like that. I alredy tried to use IsoBuster but I could only recover a part, the rest is the part with the scratch.

    Thanks.

    P.S. If anyone wants pictures or a video for you to understand just say it.

    I recommend using isopropyl alcohol and not rubbing alcohol (or drinking alcohol) to clean your discs in extreme circumstances only. The Isopropyl seems to do a better job with less liquid than rubbing alcohol.

    That being said, as a last resort you could try(don't laugh) toothpaste on the scratch. I have heard car paste wax works too but have never tried it. Apply the toothpaste just as you did the alcohol. remove in the same manner and when the surface is shiny the scratch should be more visible(it's got winterfresh toothpaste in it). The disc has a better chance of reading now.

    Why it works, I have no idea, but I can attest to it working personally for me.

    What I do is apply the toothpaste with a lint free cloth in circular motions. Almost like I am trying to make the scratch magical disappear beneath my finger. Once I get it sufficiently spread I then use the clean section of the lint free cloth to wipe the excess toothpaste away until the surface is shiny and all that is clearly visible is the scratch. Insert disc, data may read through scratch. It hasn't worked everytime but it does work. Others on the net confirm this. That is how I found out about it.

    Thanks, but it doesn't work, maybe it's a deep scratch, do you think that one of this would work?

  8. Hi PTsniper,

    I highly suggest you to try DVDFab Platinum 3 Beta to see the result:

    1. Even if some information (IFO) cannot be read, you can still copy "Main Movie" or "Customize".
    2. Recovery from DVD reading (VOB) error.

  10. You may also use CDRoller 6 which does miracles sometimes to recover a lot of information on bad disks. It takes a long time but the result is worth it. Here is the link.

    I've always just used water to rinse the paste off. Just hold it under the faucet. I then use windex to clean off any remaing smudges. On the toothpaste thing, I try to rub the scratched areas acroos the circle and not with. This lessens the chance that you will create a scratch in the same direction that the disc is read.

    Ok thanks, but how do I do it?

    I've downloaded that and he reconized the DVD, but this thing says it's scaning, I've waited 10 minutes and it had only scanned 1% of the 1st track, and I've two, isn't there any other way to do this easyer? Just a simple program that recovers everything or almost everything; or a some product that makes scrathes dissapear for a while...

    Thanks.

  14. You have to give it time. It may take a couple of hours but it will save everything that it can. I used it a couple of times to recover a lot of things.

    Try Ripit4me. It works even better than DVDFabDecryptor on damaged discs. It works with Dvddecryptor and Shrink using VTSFix (or is that FixVTS ) to get by the damaged sectors.

    I had problems with readable DVD and found some sucess by ripping and reauthoring the DVD. If you have a good reader, it may be able to fix it by reading what the player cannot. I was successful on some occasions and not on others. It's worth a try.

    Nothing of this works, because my DVD is not finalized;

    and I'vent tried CDroller 6, because it will take me all day.
    Tooth paste doesn't works either;
    IsoBuster works, and it's very good, but it doesn't recover all the DVD.

    So my question is: is there any chance to recover almost everything but a little bit more fast than CDroller 6 or not?

    Thanks to all.

    Chances are good that the local rental videostore has a resurfacing machine. If you're friendly with the owner or an employee, ask them to resurface it once (or possibly twice, if the scratches are still there). They might charge you a dollar. Some home fix-it kits have alittle hand-crank version of this.

  22. Graywhale CD near me does resurfacing. I'm sure there are other places that do it too.

    Wow, so I can find a local shop that does that, and my DVD would be cleaned, and then I can finalize it?

    Great, thanks a lot.

    OK, so this was one of my first topics.

    But now, I've a new question about a scratch too:
    I've a DVD+RW that has a deep scratch, and I tried everything to recover it:
    - Iso Buster
    - toothpaste
    - alchool

    Any ideas?
