I was wondering why the programs I had set on timer
    did not record.

I discovered that the DVD recorder date today (Sep 1) was
showing as Aug 31st. (I believe that it actually went wrong
sometime yesterday Aug 31st i.e. it must have been
    showing Aug 30 then).

I have an identical recorder and this shows the correct date.

    Any thoughts ?

My first guess it that it is set for the wrong time zone.

I can't see any settings for time zones but even then
I fail to see how it could be a whole day out.

That was a common problem with the first and second generation Philips recorders too....strange.

I have messed up setting the time and date time and date for the recording to occur, but the time and date shown on the recorder itself has always been correct. What you are describing is really weird.

I have a DMR-ES10 also, but I’m from the U.S. so I’m not sure how things might differ where you are. If I’m wrong about what is available in the U.K., please forgive my ignorance.

Do you have the problem recorder set up to automatically set the correct time and date using the signal from a local TV station? If not, in the event of a power failure I’m not sure what would happen to the time and date settings. Since your second identical recorder wasn’t affected, having them set up differently is the only possibility that I can think of, other than a problem in its firmware.

Last year Panasonic released several firmware updates to fix timer problems (weekly recording) in some US models (check here).

I do not know if this is the same case for PAL recorders. But over here I put a link to a German Panasonic web site with updated firmware for DMR-ES10EG-S.

Note: I do not know if this firmare is in german.
