What are BY files? Which software creates them? Can you provide a MediaInfo analysis?

So I would guess MPEG4 (ASP or AVC) in a TS alike container? ... Once again, a MediaInfo analysis will possibly help a bit.

File properties? What ... of Windows Explorer?

Why do you think I asked for MediaInfo? Because Windows Expolorer knows nothing.

Whilst this has been answered in the other topic, for the benefit of anyone who finds this question somewhat later a .BU file appears to be a proprietory format for CCTV developed by Samsung.

It also uses a 'DV2' file that contains the required info to play the file in an appropriate player (not that there appears to be that many that support it).

My guess is that the BU file is a raw stream so there would be no useful information obtained by Mediainfo

If it really is that simple you should be able to play the file with vlc.

And convert with any decent converter. Even with avidemux or handbrake.

But proprietory formats are not that simple.

No man. vlc does not play it. The file is BU file. from CCTV monitoring. Need to be converted to mpeg.

Do you actually bother to read what was previously written ?

But you have your answer elsewhere.

Nothing else for me to add here right now.

With this ffmpeg toolbox GUI, you can virtually batch convert any audio/video format supported by ffmpeg in a few clicks, provided you know the basics of ffmpeg.
