FormatFactory doesn't "require" a codec pack, it IS a codec pack.
Look in the folders it creates and you find a whole bunch of codecs that it has installed without notice.
At least that's what he version my daughter installed a year ago had, and which took me several days to sort out after she tried to uninstall it, making many of my other media programs stop working.
Try StreamFab Downloader and download from Netflix, Amazon, Youtube! Or Try DVDFab and copy Blu-rays!

I've had no issues installing or uninstalling it, and no problems converting almost any form of video (save MKV, which has always been a pain). And as far as media players not working, typically I don't use windows media if I can help it, but use KMplayer or VLC (which both use internal codecs). I'm sorry you have had issues with it, but AviDemux doesn't look as easy, and has sync problems in my fave container intro'ed in 2.5.

All the .dll's in the directory are used solely by FormatFactory in my case. mEncoder, and its sister mPlayer, are made to be independent of the OS, so as to be stored on removable media (ie a flash drive). The only thing FormatFactory uses that is on my system (since I did install it) is AviSynth, which is used when FormatFactory can't re-encode using the default, mEncoder.

That's funny (as in odd or strange) -- I've had excellent results converting MKV to DVD with ConvertXtoDVD, maybe even better than any other of the many types of format conversions I've done with it. I can't speak to how well that might go for converting to portable formats (iPod, cell phone, etc.), since I would not have any interest in doing that, always preferring to watch stuff on a bigger screen. Even a good size PC monitor screen isn't going to cut it for me. CX2D may not even offer those options (hence its name), though I've never bothered to check. Of course, DVDFAB and a number of others will convert to most of those media formats.

True, some MKVs convert well in some of the formats, but DVDFab converts only SRT subtitles, as do most of the converters out there, to a hardsubbed avi. FormatFactory can convert any subs, but the hardsubs are hard to read (for now at least). The video and audio convert well, but hardsubs are hard to make unless a specific format.

Is there any chance someone could point me in the direction of a FREE converter which can convert Video_TS files into mpeg/avi/mov/anything to go on YouTube. So far have tried Winff, Super, Handbrake (wouldnt work on my work computer as it is lacking updates), and a few others. But they havent worked, axara worked but isnt free so left a big logo on the screen.
Thanks -
The best one I have used is avidemux v 2.52. Over the past few years it has not failed me once. Anothr\er one that I have used successfully is "free video converter" from dvdvideosoft. Just google this term.
Strangely I have come across a few video_ts (*.vob) files where in successive files are encoded in different formats. These do not lend them selves to easy conversion by any software. In this case I encode each vob file separately to identical output and then mux them all together with mkvmerge. This can then be transcoded to any format you want using avidemux.
Hope this helps. -
I am trying to convert various files for streaming on JustinTV. Problem is that any mp4 or flv file cannot be streamed on JustinTV (they believe that those formats are copyright infringement formats and anyone trying to stream such files is streaming copyright material to which they do not have they rights)
I tied Avanti and it was a total bust. You can only use the limited number of templates most of which split the audio out and create two output files one audio and one video (fine if you are making a DVD but not good otherwise) any attempt to set anything manually results in an error saying the setting is not supported. Which is very weird if the settings are not supported then why are they there? -
When you have files in a number of different formats and resolutions your best bet is freeware Super available at ......
http://www.erightsoft.com/home.html.
I have had situations where the vob files were encoded with different video/audio codecs. As such the movie would play but no software could rip it to a single mkv/avi file. Using Super I was able to rip each individual segment to same video/audio codec, which then could be ripped together as a single mkv or avi using Avidemux.
It also happens to support the widest range of input and output codecs around. Only drawback being high resource requirement and a bit more involved learning curve to make it do exactly what you want. -
Super 2011 did the trick however
WARNING: SUPER 2011 CONTAINS SPYWARE AND OTHER MALWARE!!!!
While you can elect to not install the well known spyware program Real Media Player, I am not sure if you can do the same with the whitesmoke malware toolbar. If it does have the option to not install whitesmoke I did not see it during the install. Whitesmoke is a known trojan browser hijacking toolbar (In a general sense almost all browser toolbars are malware)
I was suspicious of the website just by how much they claimed to be free of malware. In a general sense if someone goes on too much about how they or their work posses or does not posses a certain quality it is a dead give away that they are not being honest.
Also adding to the suspicion was the fact that I had to click on several links that promised to download the program only to be brought to yet another page with a link promising to download the program. This is a sure fire sign that the website is up to some kind of funny business.
-
I have been using Super fir past several years and have never had any problems with any virus nor trojans/malware. This is the first time I am hearing that it wants to install a brwser toolbar. May be it is their way of making some money from the sponsor.
I have seen a whole lot of very reliable freewares which insist on installing bing search bar. I let it and then go into the browser and uninstall it.
Perhaps by the multiple links download method they are ensuring no one else can host it.
BTS I suggest you go to the site of x264 project. Supoer is listed as one of the software using that codec. I cery much dout their endorsement / listing if it contained any kind of malware. In fact I learned about it - I believe - right here on this site. -
There are certain products that the developers claim are not malware but many consider to be malware. There have even been lawsuits against anti-virus software companies by those who do not want their stuff to be viewed as malware.
Real Media Player has a long history of bad malware type behavior. They promise to stop the behavior only to be caught again and again. They have been caught sending private info about what files you play on your system after they promised they were not doing that. Their software has caused all kinds of system problems. In the past it was very very difficult to get rid of the bit that sucked up system resources and sent info about your system and its files. If you uninstalled the program that bit was left behind. If you deleted the .exe file responsible it would be reinstalled automatically.
Currently Real Media is under fire for other stuff. The point is that in it's 15 years of existence it has always been considered by computer experts, anti malware organizations and numerous users as malware.
Look at the criticism section
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RealPlayer
Also check out:

These just talk about the tip of the iceberg when it comes to it's malware behavior. -
Hi folks,
@ Klawdek, I am glad that you posted the above Warnigns about "SUPER" software.
What I don't understand why so many other websites other than our Trusty VideoHelp does NOT tag this darn software as a Spyware/Malware.
Also, I just noticed that VH list SUPER as a Spyware ... so why even carry it here, if in fact is a spyware ... but then again I would rather see it posted and TAGGED as Spyware on VH since I Trust this site ... and let's hope the Author/Developer will Remove their Junks from the software.
The other thing that I notied on SUPER was that lately they have been Updating their software more frequently ... and that was Odd in itself to me ... since in the old days they would have their updates on an annual basis.
Q: Just out of curiosity what Software or Online Scanner did you use to come up with your findings?
I tried to use Virus-Total ... but it can only accept files up to 20MB, and SUPER all versions of it are over 22MB and higher.
Thanks again,
G!Last edited by gonwk; 26th Apr 2011 at 20:40.

...Can you actually link me to all the problems Realplayer has, since I have not run into those two problems since Realplayer 7 (my first install of it). It's no more intrusive than Quicktime, and offers more features than that or Windows Media Player.
I do wish there was a media player for online media, ala rtsp protocols, asx streaming media, qtl playlists...MKV: Merely Krappy Video.

What about Freemake Video Converter?
http://www.freemake.com/free_video_converter/
It could do with a few extra options like:
- Cropping
- Advanced Deinterlacing options
- Chapter markers
Nevertheless, it works like a charm! -
I have been impressed by how good Freemake is given it's lack of advanced features. For non-specialist users it is virtually fool-proof, and the quality is quite good once you set up a few custom profiles. It is also faster than most, even in 2-pass mode. It can also download HD content from youtube. It also has a rudimentary editor, much like VideoRedo's, that can remove sections of video. So far I have not had any sync issues using it.
I agree with the list of needed features above, and would also add the ability to pass-through video and audio without re-encoding, and the ability to use subtitles from within a DVD source.
For the price, this is a slick little tool.Read my blog here.

Another vote for Freemake. It is simple, slick & does the job nicely. The "visualizations" are great fun too.
This it can already do! In fact I spent all morning here try to hardcode subs from a vob segment, not an easy task! Avidemux simply baulked at it, so I tried Freemake & it did it without a hitch. It automatically detected the vobsubs and gave the option to embed them in output. -

How about Xilisoft Video Converter Ultimate? It costs $60, but supports a TON of formats, including HD video, SD video, Tablets, Phones, etc...
Buy here: http://www.xilisoft.com/video-converter.html -
FWIW, there doesn't seem to be any mention of Wondershare products in the Tools section. I have their Video Converter Ultimate -- obtained as a free giveaway from
http://dottech.org/freebies/23130/free-wondershare-video-converter-ultimate/
some time ago, though by now this is most likely expired. I don't know that I can vouch for it, since I've only used it once so far. That was to convert several .WMA video files to .MP4 format. The quality of the results seemed quite comparable to the source files, which were o.k. but nothing special. Several other types of format to format conversion were available. The program's operation was on the obtuse side, not so readily apparent. Conversion took a fair amount of time, during which progress cues were minimal. That said, I had no complaints about the outcome, particularly considering this had cost me nothing.
If and when there is much more I can say about this program, I will post a review in the Tools Section. When in Las Vegas, don't miss the Pinball Hall of Fame Museum http://www.pinballmuseum.org/ -- with over 150 tables from 6+ decades of this quintessentially American art form. -
Added Xilisoft Video Converter and Wondershare VIdeo Converter Ultimate. I haven't added them before because of spamming...but maybe someone likes them.
-
And then I just saw this one
http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/aiseesoft-totalmediaconverter/
There are a bunch of Aiseesoft products around, much as with the other two companies Baldrick mentioned.
No idea about this one, but it's free today (9/16), and their users seem to give it pretty high marks, for whatever that may be worth. Typical user review consensus there for the item of the day tends to run rather negative, so -- when it runs positive like this -- I'm more likely to take notice and download it. Their site traffic seems to be quite jammed at the moment. When in Las Vegas, don't miss the Pinball Hall of Fame Museum http://www.pinballmuseum.org/ -- with over 150 tables from 6+ decades of this quintessentially American art form.
