So do you have an arcade machine at home? Is it an antique like pong or something newer??

Do you have game room equipment like a pool table or a dart board?

--- I don't have any of those toys..... I have lots of other tech toys though
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

  3. Play all the arcade games on M.A.M.E. with Portriat Monitor on PC.

Target, Walmart, and Toy'rus sell a hand held unit that you can play many original arcade games on TV. This one has Pacman, Rally-X, Dig-Dug, Galaxian and Bosco.

Ever seen a MAME machine? Grab yourself a computer or XBOX, and then custom make an arcade-like shell, complete with the cherry buttons and arcade sticks. You need some advanced computers skills, and a bit of carpentry skills, but it makes for a nice project.

The system boots directly into the MAME interface, and then you use the joysticks to select games, and then play them.

There are guides and sites for this kind of thing online.

I have in my bedroom Donkey Kong, Jungle Hunt, Asteroids and Missle Command! Yes, FULL Size. Don't get to play them a whole lot but they sure do bring back some memories! Still want to get Space Invaders and Galaga

None (yet), but Double Dragon is one I would be keen to buy. The Atari 520ST version sucked ass IMHO but it's hard to go past the arcade version.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Sadly, most Atari ST games sucked, compared to their Amiga counterparts. But then, I didn't get the Atari to play games...

No arcade games but I have a few old pinball machines instead (old = before ´76 and the introduction of electronics in the pinball world).
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

MAME rocks. I would love one of those new cabinets that does lots of classic games in one, but until I can afford one, I'll stick with MAME.

No, but I wish I had one of these:

I wonder if this also does vector scan graphics, which is a must for Tempest. I have also seen a full size traditional arcade controller that had ALL the controls (edit: hey...it was one of those SlickSticks), that works with the atari PC games. It was about $350. I've also played lots of Fooz Ball at friends' homes, which is definately an honorable mention.
    Usually long gone and forgotten

  15. That's a good point. Emulator like MAME must have a vector to raster emulation to do Tempest, battle zone, Asteriod, etc..

Vector Graphics was Tektronix adaption of storage tube CRT from test equipment to graphics application. The model 4006 and 4014 are the well known standards. They even guest star in movie/TV series like Battlestar Galactica.

that slickstick site is awesome. That looks like the way to go if you are serious about your arcade games. Building a Mame back-end you could have any arcade game you wanted right there. I also loved the arcade double dragon games..i think i'll go fire mame back up and try them out...

i personally would rather have an arcade board for the controls and a projector to have the game on a 10' screen on the wall :P.

  17. www.arcadecontrols.com is a forum of many of us arcade nuts building a home arcade cabinet for MAME. My cabinet is about 50% complete right now. But even just playing the games on the arcade control panel is a blast!

  18. MAME was designed for keyboard. The most difficult thing to do is playing the very common two player games. I saw this joystick on radioshack.com, I wonder anyone has try two of this Saitek® ST290 joysticks for two player game on MAME yet ?

Too bad HS is selling it, everything they sell is at least twice what it should cost.

I wonder if this also does vector scan graphics, which is a must for Tempest.
I'd imagine it does a bitmapped emulation. I believe that's what MAME does as well as some PC-based emulations of Tempest and other games. They are indistinguishable from the original.

    @EVERYONE-

Anybody know where you can get a trackball and dual paddles for the PC?

  23. I use MAME, though i have a sit-in OUTRUN (my favourite game in the world) arcade machine that is in imaculate condition (1986) that I bought at an auction here in OZ from an enthusiast. Check out http://www.mameworld.net/ for everything MAME.

The storage CRT's vector graphics is very unique. The lines are formed with lines with two brighter dots at the ends. The raster rmulation does not have this "feature".

You may able to still see the real things at a local bowling alley, or video arcade.

  25. I don't have one but will someday when I have my own house with a room dedicated to gaming. Vanguard, Tron and Crazy Climber were some of my favorite arcade games that received a lot of quarters from me in my youth.

I've had this pad for two years (and on the original batteries) and have not had a problem with it at all. The biggest room in my house is about 13 feet and have no problems with the wireless.

Could you post pics of your project? You might inspire some members here to get started on their own. Or even supply your construction details if you would. Sharing makes us all better

  28. I don't have the room for a full arcade machine. I have my multimedia center setup with GameX, which interfaces my videos, Mame, Daphne (Laser Disc Games) like dragons lair, space ace, cliff hanger all selectable via my entertainment system. I use the wireless logitech game pads without any problems.
