I rented this movie at the Video store last week and it froze about half way through the 190 min. extended version, then jumped about 20 min. further into the movie. This is a double sided disc with the theatrical version on one side and the extended version on the other. I took it back and got a second copy, same problem, tried another copy from a different video store, same thing. Is this a problem with my old Samsung DVD V1000, or a problem with the way the DVD was manufactured? Btw, I tried it on my computer and had the same result. Could it be because my DVD player is not progressive scan? My machine is very sensitive to different media. Because it has the same problem on my computer, I am thinking my DVD player is not at fault. Totally confused.

definitely sounds like a layer break issue..maybe a bad batch? computer dvd-roms are usually MUCH more forgiving of disc problems than standalones. I recently rented a dvd that was all kind of jumpy during the movie. i ended up just using my laptop to play it.

Yeah that's strange you would get more than one that would do the same thing...

I bought mine the day it came out and have watched it twice since then and i have not had a problem with it.

Seeing as they were rentals did you check to see how clean or how good of shape they were in ?

I know every rental i get goes back WAY cleaner and nicer looking than when i rent it

I'm amazed at how smudged and grimey they are from the rental store.

The first 2 that I got from Roger's Video were fairly scratched up, that is why I tried another one from Blockbuster. The last one, that I still have for a couple more days, looked it had never been played. I tried running it through DVD Shrink to see if I got an error and I did. Cyclic Redundancy, or something like that, wish I would have checked the other 2. Does that help at all?
    Thanks, Paul

Mine which I own is a two disc set and has a similiar issue. About half way through the extended edition(disc 2) it freezes for a matter of seconds and then jumps about 20-30 seconds. Disc 1 plays just fine with the original theater version. Maybe it's a problem with the movie? Maybe the Master was screwed up. I searched the net at the time I found out. I didn't find anything.

I just read a review of the DVD that mentions this problem and states that it seems to only present itself on certain players. This is common with mastering errors.

That is what I thought it was. The movie was a gift to me. I watched the original soon after I got it but I didn't watch the extended until months later. Too late to return a gift and to tell you the truth I don't really care that it does this. I did at the time but as long as I can watch the original I am happy.
