Problem asf file gets stuck

I have an asf file I am trying to convert to DVD. While it plays ok in wmp, there is some problem in the file that prevents converting after about 20 minutes. I have tried the following without success:

1: Open in VirtualDubMod and frameserve. Works but goes out of sync.
2: Using avisynth to process the file. Works but goes out of sync.
3: Running files through asfbin. No change
4: Opening in Windows Movie Maker and exporting to DV. Gets stuck at the same pont.

Normally opening an asf or wmv file Windows Movie Maker and having Movie Maker convert it to DV works fine, but not for this file.

Any suggestions?

tried divxtodvd / convertxtodvd? or ffmpeg guis like super or mediacoder?

or maybe try split the asf with asfbin where it cause the crash?

Sort of hangs the whole file at the place it gets stuck at so hard to try to cut it. Will try mediacoder and Super.
