Ok, I know this quesiton has probably surfaced a ba-zillion times, but i've been unable to find my prob exactly...

Here's the deal...I'm capturing my thousands of hours of video tape to digital format, preferably Divx, for reduced file size.. The videos capture beautifully to the .mpg format. But, when I convert them in V-dub, the sync goes to crap. File plays fine for the first minute, or so, then goes off by as much as 10-20 seconds by the end of the file.

I've tried extracting the audio to PCM and using that as the source, to no avail. I've tried editing the resulting PCM file to fit the length of video exactly, nada. I'm tearing my hair out at this point, 'cause it happens 100% of the time.

    Help a brotha out, please.

If you need to use VirtualDub to edit your videos, here's what I do:

First I extract a .d2v file from the MPEG-2 captures using DVD2AVI. This also creates an .mpa audio file. Convert the .mpa file to a .wav with MPA2WAV. I can't remember if VirtualDub opens .d2v files directly, but I use a short Avisynth program like:

    LoadPlugin("C:\software\greedyhma\MPEG2DEC.dll&quo t
    LoadPlugIn("C:\software\greedyhma\InverseTelecine. dll&quot
    mpeg2source("C:\<filename>.d2v&quot
    InverseTelecine(40,10,15)
    temporalsmoother(6)

Now you can open this .avs file and the .wav files using VirtualDub and edit the video. I've been able to get audio synched by a) applying the audio offset from your .wav file under audio:interleaving? and b) under video:frame rate click on the option that says something like "make audio and video framerates match". My audio and video seem to always be off by .003 fps.

When frameserving to TMPGEnc, I thought I'd have a problem with the oddball 23.973 framerate, but it seems to work ok for me if I set it to 23.976fps when converting to MPEG-1.
