I suspect that my machine freezes when playing DVD's because of the DVD quality (not the quality of the movie). Is it possible that some DVD's can cause this problem ?? or is it a codec problem ??

It's very possible. Rule of thumb: don't buy cheap media. Even some of the moderately priced ones aren't that great.

I have seen corrupt videos cause a player to lock up, but never freeze a machine. Usually either clicking a couple of times on the close icon or using task manager clears the player and everything continues on as normal.
Depending on what software this happens with, it could be driver or directx related (both play a part in playback) or even the player software itself.Read my blog here.

Thnak you both.
yes it freezes , I have to use the re-start button, to reboot my PC. !!
The DVD's I use are DVD-R that I recorded myself.
I have up-dated directX from here:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/directx/
I have the last up-date ,august2006 , so I think not a codec problem.
Another thing, it happens when using WMP , KmPlayer or Bsplayer... no matter which one I use.
