    Hi guys,

When I capture and save to AVI the videos are really dark. I can fix this by adjusting the "video overlay" settings but it's very unsatifying.

What sucks is that the video overlay affects the recording and not just the playback. I want to capture the videos like they are, not how my video overlay alters them.

Even when I encode them to WMV and play them on a totally different computer they are too dark.

I tried to disable the video overlay but it doesn't seem like I can.

I have the Intel D945GNT motherboard which has the Intel GMA 950 onboard graphics subsystem.

    What should I do ?

    Thanks.

    Hi...

    1. take a look at the contrast/brightness settings on your and your friends monitor

    If its OK

    2. Change the brightness/contrast when rendering to WMV..

  3. The problem is not caused by overlay. Overlay is only used to output video to the monitor.

Computer monitors have very different gamma curves than televisions. Video should look darker on the computer than on TV. If you are making a video specfically for viewing on the computer and you want a brighter picture you will have to adjust the brightness.

    Hi,

I realize that now, it all seems very complicated.

Can I do something simple in AVISynth to get the levels close to what they would be on a regular TV ?

    Thanks.

  5. Try adjusting the gamma with the Levels() or ColorYUV() filters in AVISynth. Try a gamma around 1.3 or so.
