After installing the new Windows Media PLayer 11 on my computer, I was unable to play almost all video files. I downloaded a few codecs, which fixed most of my problems, except for that fact that I cannot play wmv files or uncompressed AVIs, with any program. Any ideas on the fix? Thanks in advance.

For avi files, you will need the appropriate divx codec installed. The wmv codecs should be supplied by WMP, it should download them on its own. It is also possible that you have corrupt files, in which case codecs won't correct the problem.

Try a standalone player such as MPC.

As I said, the files will not open in any program, not even WMP classic.
The files are not corrupt, as they worked before the upgrade.
When I look online for the codecs, it says there are none.

I tried all of this, but it changed nothing. This is the error I get when I try to play a wmv:

A little ironic that MS latest attempt at making a media player doesn't play their very own wmv format...

    LOL....and what else is new.

Of course, installing the "new" version of any software isn't always a good idea either (Nero 7 anyone?).

If it will uninstall, then I would remove it and reinstall 9 or 10. Knowing MS, it won't, in which case you will most likely end up reinstalling the OS.
