Hi thought maybe someone could help/offer some advice, my mic input to my pc just recently stopped working. the connection has been not so good, i recently did the old remedy "put foil on the tip of the mic to get a better connection" while plugging it in.....but now i get no voice on my mic at all.

is there an easy way i could open it up and get to the inside where my mic connects into - im thinking i got some foil stuck in there (or would i have to just take it in)

im basically stuck with with a pc without a working mic connection, and it really blows.

  2. You did shorted the mic input.

Many PCs has two sets of audio i/o. Do you have the other input available ?

Your audio line input is still working. So if your line input has extra gain, you can turn it on, and use it as mic input.

i see, what is that youre saying though, i can use which in place of my mic input??

i'm going to check if there is another mic input on the back end of my pc, i have not even checked that. ive got an emachine and im using the input that is just right in front of the pc (to the bottom) it has a usb input and some others im not sure....a headphone jack i think.

  4. The jack next to the mic input, is known as line input. It is not as sensitive as mic input, but if it has a gain function, or your mic has high output, then you can use that instead.

You can also use an USB microphone. See : http://shopping.yahoo.com/search?p=usb%20microphone

atfer looking this over, i have a "lime green" and "light blue" output in the back. not sure if this is what your speaking of.....the green is what my speakers are connected to - i tried plugging my mic into the other, and it works but only picks up through one side my left i believe.

also i get feed from whatever audio im playing from my pc. the reason i know is i tested it out on cool edit and it picks up music say a mp3 playing when it wouldnt normally do that, even if my speakers are off and ive just got the mic on only. anyway i can turn that off?? to have it pick up just my voice that is from my mic

(and like you said to check if there is a mic input in the back, there is one but its the same as the input in front i get no sound what so ever from it)

The lime green is the stereo line out (Usually stereo speakers)
The light blue is the stereo line in. (Usually a CD or other 1 volt level input.)
The pink is the stereo microphone in.

If you are using a mono (Single channel) microphone and plug, that will just give you one channel, if it even works. The plug won't fit properly. You need to use a stereo type microphone or a 'Y' splitter or combiner with your mono microphone.

The stereo and mono plugs look like this:

    1) The color scheme is NOT universal, but USUALLY, light blue is Line, light green is speakers, and light red is microphone. HOWEVER, most mainboards with SoundMax drivers have "AudioESP", which can dynamically set the input and output ports, you can plug almost anything to anything and still work. However, it's better to follow the convention.

    2) Usually you have to go into the recording control panel (that equalizer thing that controls volume, then from inside, pick recording), and enable the microphone input.

    hi,
First of all that wasn't really a good idea to put tin foil to try to get a better fit.... because just what is now hapening.... mentioning this, I know it after the fact.... however soundsl ike you mic jack component was either getting worn or maybe something broke inside.... to begin with..

    1. if the the tin foil is jamed......
    a. if you have a sound card setup... then possiblly remove sound card, where yo can get easy access to the mic jack... in many cases the mic jack is not in a housing and hense you can access the tin foil with tiny tweezers to remove....
    2. if a embedded sound chip then you have wire that leads from the MB to the backplane that holds various sound jacks ... specifically the mic jack.. and again if the mic jack not in a housing you may be able to remove the tin foil....
in either case..... depending on the contruction.... you may be able to easily just replace the mic jack!!!

Good deal, Your line input does work with your mono microphone. Use this adapter to get sound from both left and right channels. See : http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2102690&cp=&origkw=mono+to+stere...entPage=search
