    hi. i 've downloaded greek subtitles for my movies and when i open them in notepad i can read them allright.But when i but them in the movie the characters are just unreadable.mabe is the encoding, but how i can change it? please help me

    are you converting to dvd? what tools??
    or are just burning and playing on your divx standalone dvd player ??

    what video player? or are you using vobsub or ffdshow?

    media player and vlc player.i just rename the subtitle file exactly as the movies name with the .sub extention

    ok that didnt help but thanx anyway.
    can you tell me a way to change subtitles enciding please?mabe this is the answer

    Easiest is probably just to use Unicode/UTF-8, that way you don't need to worry about encoding. As to changing the encoding in VLC; no idea and for wmp it would depend on the renderer.

  8. if you have a .sub, you also need a .idx file to match it.

    If its .srt keep it that way.

    If it were sub/idx then it would be bitmap based, so no character encoding issues.
