I have purchased a Vosonic media library/player, and one of the features is video playback. I have transferred some movies in "normal" app. 700 MB AVI files, with normal TV resolution. However, playing of these files is done with slow framerate. When I try some .MOV files from my digital camera, they plays perfectly. I therefor have a theory that the large AVI files is a bit too heavy for the player. Does anyone know about a simple and free program to convert the AVI files to a smaller size? Since the players display is QVGA, 320 x 240, this would be a proper format, I think.

It depends on the AVI format, but VirtualDub can re-encode them or most any AVI encoder program. You might try out SUPER for an easy to understand program. Try some short clips of maybe 5 minutes to see what works best. And check the documentation for the player and see what they suggest.

    And welcome to our forums.

Thanks. I have already tried some programs after some net search, and actually VirtualDub too, it was recommended by a colleague of mine. But VD demands some codecs, and I am not very familiar with the jungle of codecs. Any tips on where to find all I need?

The player should list which ones it uses. You can get most of them to the left in 'Tools'. <<<<<<

Or you can take the AVI that didn't play well before and drop it into Gspot 2.52 and it will tell you which codec it uses. You should be able to use the same one, just resize the video and maybe lower the framerate. That's why I suggested a program like SUPER, because with Virtual Dub, it can get a little complicated until you are familiar with it. There are quite a few guides for VirtualDub on the VirtualDub page in 'Tools'.

Also for general help, look to 'CONVERT' and you will see guides listed for most types of conversions and encoding.
