  1. Err... I'm sorry, Accidently entered. anyways, I just bought a Son-A03 DVD-R, And I recently ordered 100 DVD-R Off of a webpage.. and they are already being shipped to me. Anyways, My primary use for these was suposed to be burning movies into DVD format... Or possible VCD if I had to on the DVD-R.I just found out from the seller ,that these DVD's I ordered are for data storage, not Authoring... So you can see my problem. I just tried to author on a Data CD that I paid $25 for... and it didnt work. I can play the DVD-R in my DVD-R drive as a DVD, but it won't play in my DVD player.. says no disk is inserted. I was wondering if there was a way to burn these movies on storage DVD-R, By either converting them to VCD format or whatever... Any help is appreciated, thanks!

  3. There are two formats of DVD-R. They are DVD-R Authoring and DVD-R General Use.
The Authoring disks are used in the "high end" burners used for premastering disks intended for commercial replication. I believe they support encryption and other features needed for professional authoring but are not used in the Pioneer AO3 and other consumer burners.
The General Use disks are used in the Pioneer AO3 and other consumer burners in the sub $1000 range. You can only use General Use disks in the AO3 and similar burners, the two types are not interchangeable.
Both the Authoring and General Use disks are readable in DVD players that support DVD-R.
If the seller referred to your disks as for "data storage" find out if he really meant "DVD-R General Use". If so then you should be OK.
If instead he meant "DVD+RW" then this is an entirely different format which is not compatible with DVD-R burners like the AO3 although it is still compatible with DVD players.
Sorry for the long post but the DVD burning scene is kind of confusing at this time with several competing standards and a format war brewing between DVD-R/RW and DVD+RW.
