In 6/18/06 Washington Post article Daniel Greenberg says that videohelp.com catalogs simple remote control sequences that restore HD upconversion to many DVD players with component output. I have searched the site but see no hacks to accomplish this. I want to buy an upconverting DVD player to connect to my older Mitusbishi HDTV which only has component input. Another question is if a dvi to rca cable would achieve the desired result.

I don't know of any hacks. Upconversion varies from player to player. Some support upconversion on component and some do not. Your best bet is to find out which players do support it instead of getting a player that needs to be hacked to support.

Thanks. From everything I'd read I thought all DVD players used DVI or HDMI outputs for upconversion. I've since looked around and found a LG DN191H that appears to upconvert via component cables. Does anyone have any input on this player or any other players that can upconvert via component cable?

A good HDTV will upscale from the 480i or 480p DVD player outputs.
