Please help....Tmpgenc & opening AVI...not working...

I have tried everything(listed on the How-to's) to get this great proggy to open an AVI file but it keeps coming up unsupported,,,any one been able to handle AVI w/ Tmpgenc??
I am looking at getting into VHS to VCD...I'd like to stick with tmpgenc since it's worked so well for me so far...
Thanks for any help.

Download and install the Nimo Codec pack (from the download section)
Under Options/Environmental Settings, select the DirectShow and VFAPI filters and promote them until they are near the top of the list.
