I purchased a movie off someone that has yet to be released here in the USA as far as I know (Der Todesking, by Jorg Buttgereit) and it was a VHS -> DVD transfer. As I expected he used a set-top recorder unit to transfer it. It plays fine in my XBox, PS2 and my Toshiba DVD player but I can't make a copy of this that can be viewed in a PC. When I use DVD Decrypter to rip the iso it says it cant read sectors 668-672 or 673. DVDShrink allows preview of it but then freezes when I go to back up. It locks up any DVD player app I try to use it (Intervideo WinDVD 4 on desktop, PowerDVD on Laptop, Media Center on both). Anyone have any advice? This is the first real problem I've ever had making a backup.

The TMPGEnc DVD Author trick seems to be working actually..its kind of odd though, I've had DVD's recorded on such units but never had problems backing them up. Is there some special setting that can be activated to prevent PC playback?

The title of your post isn't very informative, by the way. I'm surprised the moderators haven't criticized it yet.

No, standalone recorders don't come with special settings to prevent copying. I think you are ignoring what is with 99.99% certainty your problem - a problem with the burned media. Sector errors could certainly be caused by scratches on the media. You might try carefully cleaning it. I have had some luck, but not every time, with using cleaning kits on DVDs that have scratches. The burned media could also be crap, but most likely it has scratches.
