    I have a video in Xvid with somewhat bad quality, it’s watch able but still I would like it to be better, the main problem is in the low bit rate that results with the appearance of many squares on the picture, I don’t think increasing the bit rate will make much of a difference, so I know it kind of a long shot to make the quality better, but could something be done so it will be fixed up at least a bit, thanks.

    use the source before it was compressed to xvid. If you don't have the source then that's the quality you're stuck with.

  3. For playback of the existing video you can try enabling Divx's or Xvid's deblocking and deringing functions.

    Fod conversion you can try MSU's deblocking filters along with VirtualDub. You'll end up with fuzzy video instead of blocky video. Sample before and after MSU Deblocking:
