I have a movie that I downloaded as an AVI file, an Ingmar Bergman film with extras. The film is one avi file. The extras are separate AVI files, except for one of the extras, which is an MP3 file of Bergman speaking. Is there anything special I have to do with this MP3 file in the conversion process and then in the burning process to be sure that it plays on the DVD player? I've not encountered this situation before.

Yes. it has to be reencoded to DVD specs audio - to AC3 with ffmpeggui is nice.
Then author as a separate title with a still image as video.

It depends on how you reauthor it. AC3 or MP2

Sorry it took so long to get back; work, other stuff, etc.

Anyway, I downloaded ffmpeggui. I converted the mp3 file to AC3, and tried to drop it into TMPGEnc Author, but I got a message saying that it was an illegal file for standard DVD, that it had to be mpeg1 or mpeg 2. I looked at ffmpeggui again, and there was an option to convert to MP2, so I tried that. Same result; illegal file.

Am I missing something or what?

You need to have video with it. Even just a black click running the length of the audio track will do.
