NeroVision Express 3 - noise appear with transitions

I am using NeroVision Express 3 to create a simple timeline for my DVD VOB clips. I am using transitions that it provides but whenever I add a transition and then play it back the footage and sound is fine until it gets the transition and then the sound "crackles" while the transition is on then it disappears when it finishes. What is happening?

Because NVE isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer?
If you're serious about this editing business, shop around for a better video editor.
Also, VOB isn't exactly the best source material. It's rather the end product after all edits has been done, and it's authored to DVD.

It's fine if I use avi video's. Can I convert the vob files to something else?

You can extract the mpg with vob2mpg (even if mpg is also an "end product") without quality loss. May work slightly better.
