  1. I know this is going ot sound a little wierd. Ever since I installed the k-lite codec pack my soundblaster is not the preferred audio device and I cann't make it the preferred audio device. It still works though. Any ideas?

You basically just destroyed your system. Those codec packs pretty much screw up everything on your computer.

I don't know about that lordsmurf, i've used Codec pack for long time, and i've never had any probs. ( i use Combined Community Codec Pack now, and love it)

Anyways kruuth, uninstall K lite, and reboot your comp, i think its a conflict issue.

Then try to set soundblaster as your preferred audio device. that should work. if you want try another codec pack (make sure you know what your doing) or just dl what codecs you need or try *cough* CCCP *cough* lol jk

hm if doesn't work i'm sure someone might/should be able to help more

According to another post recently, CCCP is basically just a bastardised version of FFDShow, in which case you should use the original FFDShow instead. There is a good chance that when you uninstall k-lite, it will leave a mess. Use Codec Sniper to search and remove broken codecs. In future, use avicodec or mediainfo or g-spot (or a combination of these) to determine what audio and video codecs you may need, and install just those on an as-needs basis.

Consider yourself one of the luckiest people on earth.
Only circumstance I can imagine, where a codec pack doesn't break more than it makes, is on a fresh Windows install.

Fresh installation of your OS? Or use some utility like codec sniper and carefully remove bad/conflicting codecs. May take longer than reinstall, tho...
