    Hi,
My problem is that I encoded an avi to mp2 using tmpeg 2.5 and ripped the audio to wav with goldwave then to ac3 with ffmpeg. I used tmpeg author to mux and create dvd.The audio is out of sync.I later noticed that the audio is 2 seconds shorter than the video in virtualdub. it seems that the audio is 1.18 sec. shorter than video. It does not get progressively worse. Is there some way where i can add 1.18 sec. to the audio eg.(silence).?Thanks in advance.

  2. Hi-

Yes, you can add silence to the AC3 using Delay Cut.
Or you can just set a delay in VDub(Mod) to get the audio back in synch.

Thanks for the response.Would I have to reencode if I set the delay in vdub.I really don't want to reencode. Also how would you go about doing it.Sorry, if this sounds noobish.I tried using delaycut but I am lost.Could you explain how to set the delay. Thanks

  4. Hi-

No reencoding of the video will take place if you direct stream it (Video->Direct Stream Copy). To find the amount of delay to set, open the AVI in Media Player Classic. Right-click the screen and go Options->Filter->Audio Switcher->check the "audio time shift" box, and fill in an estimate of the amount of asynch. Hit "Apply" and test it out. Negative values are to make the audio play earlier. 1000 ms= 1 second. Resume playback. Adjust until you get it right. At that point you'll know how much the audio is out of synch and how much to set the delay in VDub)Mod). Then open the AC3 in VDubMod, set the Video for Direct Stream Copy, go Streams->Stream List->Right-click the audio->Interleaving->Audio Skew Correction, and set the same delay as you found using MPC. OK your way out of there, go File->Save As, give it a new name, wait a minute or 2, and test it out.

  6. Any thoughts?

Don't use Windows Media Player? Seriously, do you have any other players you can try? If it's in synch using MPC and not in synch using WMP, I know which player I'd use (and do). I don't know, maybe WMP doesn't honor the delay. I don't use it anyway, and don't care that it's a bloated useless piece of junk. If you insist on using WMP, you'll have to master Delay Cut maybe, by adding silence to the audio.

The fact that the audio is shorter than the video means nothing. Plenty of videos/movies have the audio ending before the video.
