  1. I'm using TMPGEnc to convert a avi file to either VCD or SVCD. This is my first attempt, so please be gentle.

Anyway, the aspect of the original avi is 640x272 (gotten by looking at the Video info while the file is playing), my problem is that I want to preserve this aspect when I convert it... so that when playing it in my dvd player on my tv, it will be in wide-screen.

But I can't seem to get this to work. No matter what setting I use (unless I use DVD, which I don't because I don't have a DVD burner) the aspcet is lost and the sides of the picture are clipped off. The movie (Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas) looks much better w/ the entire picture, and I don't want to lose any of it.

    Any help would be great.

    Thanks,
    Velvet

  2. 1. In order to look at the resolution of the file without playing, right click the file, go to properties, and select the video tab. It will tell you the resolution of the file, and the fps (important in choosing your template ).

    2. You will not be able to keep the 640 x 272 resolution. TMPGEnc will change a VCD to 360 X 240 and SVCD to 480 x 480.

    3. In order to prevent TMPGEnc from clipping the sides of your movie, go to the advanced tab in settings. Source aspect ratio should be 1:1 and your video arrange method should be full screen.

    4. To check to make sure the sides aren't going to be clipped, press okay to save your settings, then go to file, preview.

  3. ah, this works.

Ok, another problem: The sound is clipping. What could cause this? And, is there a way to avoid this without pulling out the sound on its own?

    Thanks, again.

  4. 1. What do you mean the sound is clipping?

    2. Always convert the audio to a .wav file and use it as your audio source in TMPGEnc.

  5. no dont export to wav.

Ur using wrong fps with current res

Its 352x240, not 360x240, that could be one reason!!!
    u use 29.97 fps for the following res- 352x240, 480x480, 704x480.

To use 25 fps use these res-
    352x288, 480x576 720x576
    ShiZZZoN PzN

Everyday is another payday and I am one step closer to becoming the one.

  6. When the original AVI file is playing, its size is 640x272 and the average frame raete is 23.98.

So last night, I did a coversion and in the file I created there are 2 problems: 1. The sound gets very off-track as the movie wears on 2. There is clipping throughout the movie. (By "clipping", I mean that there are little ticks or pops in the sound track that are noticeable.)

Other than the sound, everything else was fine (ie, the picture looked good.

Also, while playing back the VCD that I made, the frame rate that it is being played back at is ~30... not the 24 that I set while encoding it. (The original file, during playback, reports an average frame rate of 24)

  7. If you are curious as to the exact file I'm trying to Convert... I got it off of Morpheus and the file name is "[DivX] - Fear_and_Loathing_in_Las Vegas.avi" and it is 710,946 KB in size.

A video search on Morpheus for "Fear and Loathing" will certainly yield this file. (I just ran a quick search and no less than 20 people were sharing this file)

I would love to be able to burn this thing to a VCD, so I do appreciate everyones' help w/ this.
