  1. Okay this was my first attempt at DVD>SVCD.
I'm suppose to play the movie for a few seconds on the software dvd player to unlock the movie, right?
Well, I tried PowerDVD and it said unauthorized file playing..something or other, so i used WinDVD. I played the Actuall movie part for about 45 seconds then tried to run Smartripper and it froze. I tried leaving the movie playing in WinDVD then starting smartripper, i tried pausing the movie, stoping the movie, and even closing WinDVD before loading Smartripper.
Everytime it froze while attempting to "un-lock the drive", half the time i got the good old Blue Screen of Death.

    Details:
Movie attempting to rip: The Fast and the Furious (collectors edition rented from Blockbuster)
    Smartripper Version: 2.41
Computer Specs: PIII 650MHz, 128MB Ram

Just out of curiousty does anyone know the number you call when a store releases a movie before there suppose to. Blockbuster released Fast and the Furious a day early. I don't care personally, infact i'm all for it but my friend said he was about to call them.

my bet it is an aspi problem, try runnin smartripper with noaspi after the exe, I think that is the switch, read the file that came with smartripper it will tell you, if that works then you have an aspi problem, find and run chkaspi.exe and it will tell you if they are there and up to date, if not find and run forceaspi17.exe.

  4. uknow, do you play the dvd and the open smart ripper while the dvd is still playing? If this is do, simply play the dvd for a while first (you may want to play some of the chapters at the end for a while). Close your player, then open smart ripper and it will work for you.

If your dvd player sux, look at doom9.org under downloads-> codecs and see which one you need to play dvd's in media player (windows media player unlocks the files)

Having had the same problem (with ASPI) I just run the "noaspi" batch file to start SmartRipper. It appears to work everytime with no apparent problems.

  7. Check to see if DMA is ticked for your DVD-ROM drive (via device manager). If it is un-tick, re-boot and try running smartripper again.
