  1. Hey everyone! Maybe I never noticed before, but.....

I captured raw DV from the camera to my computer, I can see the comb lines in VirtualDub, but GSpot does not show me that the video is interlaced. In fact, all the indicators are greyed out. Am I missing something or just forgot something simple?

    Thanks for all your help.

The little [Prog] and [I/L] icons do indeed refer to "Progressive" and "Interlaced" video, but they are there as indicators of the presence of those flags in MPEG files.
You're talking about DV, and there is no such flag in a DV-compressed file that tells whether it's Prog or IL. Best way to tell if it is or not is to look at it (whole string of frames).

However, the DV spec really ONLY expects interlaced. (It is working with SD video, so that makes sense).

There is an OpenDML extension to AVI (that DV files are usually saved under) that supports flagging whether a frame has 1 or 2 fields, but I don't know if AVI parsers such as Gspot have implemented recognition of it yet.

  3. Ah, thanks for the clarification. I think I just never noticed that before, or just plain got it confused with MPEG.

    Thanks again!
