thats why it is destined to fail here, or there will be plenty various devices allowing to pass it, thats for sure.

    Region coding on DVDs, anyone?
Very soon there were players allowing us to play any region discs anywhere.
"Macrovision" and other copy-protection-schemes on VHS?
In Europe they didn't use it on 99% of the tapes sold there, and the market there didnt suffer any more from 'piracy' than it did in America, where 99% of tapes sold had stupid macrovision 'quality protection' lol

    and so on.

Whoever wants to make any 'illegal' copies (by that I mean for selling) always had and always will have means to do it.
All those 'protections' do is just prevent legitimate buyers who bought original products from copying it for their own use.

RIAA or MPAA want to waste their members (studios, labels) money - let'em. Its their choice.
Our choice is to buy products that suits us best = vote with your money
    so simple

I'd don't have any copy-protection on my HDTV channels. All the cable boxes I know of here is the US output component, with most supporting DVI and HDMI.

What is your cable company? And which outputs are you using for HDTV?

Here Comcast 5c blocks all digital channels except locals on IEEE-1394 and letterboxes to S-Video.

Or are you talking about HDCP on DVI/HDMI. Nobody is doing that yet although it is built in and ready to be turned on. There continues to be legislative effort in Congress to force HDCP to be selectively turned on even for broadcast channels. Sensebrenner (R) and Conyers (D) are the sponsors.
