Hi there,
I have this avi/divx4 movie I wanted to show to somebody, but my actual PC no longer is able to run that movie , apparently due to missing codec. With Gspot I discovered it needed divx4. So I installed the K-lite codec pack via its default installation setup , including the Media Player Classic.
After installation I tried to play that movie again but got this report :

Any idea what I can do to play this movie ? Or is this an indication that the video file is corrupt or so ?
Your input/hints/ideas are welcome.

You should never have installed that codec pack... Codec packs are a sure fire way to screw your video playback capabilities. Search this site for hints and suggestions for trying to fix the situation.
For playback of this file: Try VLC - it's independent of system codecs.
But then - why don't you play it from your original DVD?

Hi Mats
A couple of years ago I would have choosen the Nimo-pack... but apparently it is no longer updated since 2002...
Is k-lite 'save and clean' to remove ? Or can I expect some hang-overs after uninstalling ?
I don't know if the movie itselve exists on a DVD - I got this avi generated from a TV Recording...

No codec pack is good - Nimo ruined my system completely a few years ago (when I knew no better).
The "uninstall" feature of these codec packs are unreliable at best, and often leaves a lot of garbage behind. But you're no worse off trying.
When a particular video wont play, do as you did and run it thru GSpot - then get the latest ver of the missing codec and nothing else.
BTW, you can watch it on line here: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7866929448192753501&hl=en

Hi Mats,
I just downloaded the VLC player (after uninstalling the Klite stuff). With VLC the avi is played perfectly.
Thanks for reminding me (because I had this jewel on one of my previous PC's....)

PS. I saw here on this site that Media Player Classic is second best after VLC... so what could have been the problem with the 'graphic pin' stuff in my original posting ? -

Installing a codec pack might do something like replace the AVI Splitter with an old version because a certain codec requires it. But maybe that splitter doesnt work with some other codecs you have installed. And uninstalling the codec pack doesn't bother to uninstall that splitter and restore the old one. Now your system is hosed unless you figure out the splitter is bad and how to restore the original one. -
Well, in my case, it comes from personal n00b experience - A computer fairly working (in the video area) but not playing everyting thrown at it + applying the Nimo codec pack = a computer that refuses to play any video at all. Obviously YMMV.

I had this same problem and found a solution: I downloaded the latest version of ffdshow from ffdshow-tryouts. In MPC Options, uncheck ALL of MPC's Internal Filters, then go to External Filters and add ffdshow DXVA Video Decoder and ffdshow Audio Decoder. Now I can play all videos and hear all audio for them. Keeping K-Lite or other codec packs in your system at the same time could screw things up, I would get rid of them.
